QUESTION: What was the connection between Charlie's passion for Railways and the Operetta, The Mikado?
ANSWER: In 1897 the Baldwin Locomotive Works of the USA developed a large locomotive for Japanese Railways; this was in the form of a 2-8-2 and thus this wheel arrangement became known as a - guess what? - a Mikado!
And a year later, Charlie was born.
