Norwood was a member of the Independent Schools Association and we believe that Charlie was on the Executive Council representing the schools in Yorkshire between 1962 and 1972. Indeed, The Leeds Graphic article in 1961 said,
Norwood College is a member of the Independent School Association, and the Headmaster has a seat on the Association's Council.

The ISA produced its first annual Official Reference Book of the ISA in 1957 and Norwood is featured on page 188. This included the Leeds Road view photograph and the following:

Telephone : Harrogate 5802

One of Charlie's colleagues with a similar interest was Mrs. Muriel G.M. Tupman, N.U.Cert., F.R.G.S. of Suncliffe School *, 335 Huntington Road, York. They may have been representing the Yorkshire Region. In a letter to Charlie dated 29 October,1972, probably regarding the closure of Norwood, Mrs. Tupman says:

"I'm sure you have done excellent service for the Association and I should send in your Official Resignation. I will gladly pay the Life Membership (5.25) as a Token of the friendship we have had over the past 17 years, which I trust will continue."
* Suncliffe School closed in 1992

The ISA has no record of Clifton House School being registered with the organisation.
