former part-owner of the Leeds Rd property

Created 26 June,2007

After Norwood had been in operation for about eight years, the school became a limited company, "Norwood College (Harrogate) Ltd". The deed conveying the property from the former owners, Edward Numa Butterworth, John Hirst and Eric Gordon Scruton, to "Norwood College (Harrogate) Limited" on 11 November,1944, shows the registered premises as 5 Leeds Road.

The Civil Registration Index 40 shows Arthur John C Hirst, as born in Halifax in the September Quarter,1898. Charlie Cass was also born in 1898. Hirst was, apparently, a solicitor and died in 1952 and was a partner in the Hirst & Capes company.

As in 2007, Hirst & Capes is in Raglan Street, Harrogate

With Scruton and Butterworth, Hirst had become the owner of what appears to have been nos.3 and 5 Leeds Road in July,1940.
