Thorpe's Illustrated Guide to Harrogate" for 1938

Perhaps preparing for war, the advert includes the advice, "The School has its own Gas Proof Room".
Image kindly provided by Tony Cheal.

The Christmas Card used in the 1960s appeared to have been based on the photograph used in the calendar made in about 1950. The sketch has the initials of K.A.B. in the corner.

Advert for Norwood in 1967 Harrogate Tourist Office publication "Harrogate"
Telephone no. is now 3456 in place of the earlier 5802. (a very convenient new number!)

A full-page article about Norwood's 25th Anniversary (i.e 1936 to 1961) appeared in the May,1961, edition of The Leeds Graphic; on the opposite page was an advert for the school and this included:

"Established for over 25 years as an Independent School. Headmaster: G W CASS BSc, FRGS, ARCM assisted by a fully-qualified and experienced staff.
Recent Examination successes include two first and one second place in Great Britain for Arithmetic in the London Chamber of Commerce examinations.
Situated on the main Leeds-Harrogate bus route and close to the Stray.
Pleasant classrooms and well equipped science laboratories. Excellent catering facilities.
A few vacancies are available for both boarding and day pupils to commence Autumn term, 1961.
For Prospectus apply to Martin C Boddy, Secretary. Telephone Harrogate 3971."
In 1959, the London Chamber of Commerce examination gave rise to an article in the local newspaper; this said that Michael Perkins gained first place in England for the LCC Maths examination and that his prize and certificate were presented to him by Field Marshall Viscount Montgomery at the Mansion House in London. The text of the newspaper article is on the Examinations page.
